AIMS Unique Competences: Preparing Southeast and East Asian Students for a Sustainable and Connected World
In July 2025, during the 10th AIMS Steering Committee Meeting, the Strategic Framework 2026–2028, known as the “Bacolod Strategy: Consolidate and Connect,” was officially adopted. As part of this milestone, the AIMS Student Experience and Competence Framework was endorsed, introducing a set of six AIMS Unique Competences.
These competences are designed as common core learning outcomes for AIMS students—equipping them with the knowledge, values, and skills needed for their future careers and lives, while contributing to a sustainable and interconnected Southeast and East Asian region.

A Key Component of the AIMS Talent Development Model
The AIMS Unique Competences play a vital role in the “Develop” phase of the AIMS Talent Development Model, which focuses on building students’ knowledge, values, and skills during their transformative mobility experiences.
This framework aims to deepen students’ intercultural, regional, and global awareness by enhancing their understanding of societies, cultures, geopolitics, and socio-economic development across the region. It fosters values for regional resilience and builds the skills to think globally, act locally, and collaborate across cultures for sustainable development and peace.

Introducing Competences to AIMS Students
The AIMS Unique Competences were officially introduced during the AIMS Virtual Regional Orientation for Academic Year 2025/2026 (Semester 1), held on 30 August 2025.
At the event, new AIMS students engaged with AIMS alumni, who shared how their exchange experiences helped them develop these competences in real-world contexts.

A Living Framework for the Region’s Future
As the Bacolod Strategy continues to engage stakeholders, the AIMS Unique Competences serve as a guiding framework. They provide a shared language and direction for universities, policymakers, students, and regional partners to align efforts and ensure that AIMS graduates are well-prepared to lead and contribute in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
This framework not only strengthens the foundation of the AIMS exchange experience but also embodies the vision of a more connected, resilient, and future-ready Southeast and East Asia.
