Shizuoka University was established in 1949 and is acomprehensive national university in Japan, locatedin Shizuoka Prefecture, the home of Mt. Fuji,between Tokyo and Osaka. It has two campuses: theShizuoka Campus in Shizuoka City, the prefecturalcapital, and the Hamamatsu Campus in HamamatsuCity, a major manufacturing hub. The university hasseven faculties: Humanities and Social Sciences,Education, Informatics, Science, Engineering,Agriculture, and Global Interdisciplinary Studies andInnovation. One of its distinctive strengths is its closepartnership with globally active companies based inShizuoka Prefecture, including Suzuki MotorCorporation and Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. The AsiaBridge Program (ABP), launched in 2015, is a keyinitiative in Shizuoka University’s internationaleducation, focusing on Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam,Myanmar, and India. Connecting the university andShizuoka-based global industries with Asia, ABPcelebrated its 10th anniversary in 2025 and hasproduced more than 430 international graduates,many of whom are now active in Japan and othercountries.
In addition to courses taught in English,exchange students can take Japanese language andculture courses from beginner to advanced levels,offered by the Shizuoka University Organization forInternational Collaboration (SUOIC). They can alsojoin activities with local residents, homestayprograms and social gatherings with Japanesestudents. Shizuoka offers a mild climate, a safe andrelaxed living environment, and easy access to Tokyoby bullet train. Shizuoka University warmlywelcomes students from Indonesia, Malaysia andThailand to study, explore Japanese society andculture, and build lasting friendships across Asia.
